Spirit  has been habbin deese awful things, dat da smart people calls seizures, but mommy calls 'em monsters, en I em tinkin mommy is rite.. dey make de sweet lil Spirit do stwange tings. Sumtimes she bite her tungue, she kick, jerk her wittle head.... An I think dat.. they hert mommy as much as dey hurt Spirit.....dat be the weeson wy Spirit's new song is here... we be callin all angels.. 'cuz we're not sure how this goes'...wen Spirit is feeling good, she don't seem no differnt dan me{sept corse she a gurl, tee hee}....only when de bad monsters come....Wen Spirit is feelin guud, she shur kin pull my butiful hairs!.. Ouch!  Pssst... tel y'all lil seekrit, I pulled 'em two, til just a year er so ago... now I knos how dat hurts...Butt mommy sez I em verrry gud 'bout not biting Spirit.  I knows her will lern notta dew dat soon.

With sadness, we need to update those who love Spirit regarding her condition,  Last summer, she began to develop seizures,  At times they have been very close together, very tragic.  However when not seizuring, she is healthy, loving , & at this time, has no neuro 'fall out', from the seizures.  Spirit is on medication to help control these dreadful 'monsters', however, she  has no 'breakthru' seizures since October 21, 2003. From now on .. it is valuing each day. hour & minute that our Creator allows Spirit to be seizure free, & to remain a part of this physical realm with us.

Please know that Spirit & her 'Mom' need all the prayers there are to get thru this difficult time.

For He does nothing without purpose,

Good news for a change!  New lab levels show that Spirit's Bile Acids are once again within normal limits!  Largely this is due to Dr Dodd's wonderful Liver Cleansing Diet.  The ataxia is better...plus we have new even better piece of news!

 Spirit got past July 25th... with no seizures.. one whole month!!! Praise God, our Blessed Mother, St Francis, the bridge angels, & all those dear friends who have prayed soo hard with us.  However, sadly, August 4th, the monsters again 'struck'.. altho no where near as severe...or long... thus we begin the count again.

On June 10th, 2002, we began a new medication, prednisone, that yes, has very bad side effects, when used over the long term....but our options were not great, so.. it seemed worth a try....since that time, I have gradually been 'getting my girl back'.. {VBG}she is now able to balance on her hind legs, she is 'figuring things out', lol.. she crawled under the gate to get to where the other babies are...she crawled under the bed, & got caught.. she runs & plays soo much more like she did befor the seizures began.

The beginning of this note is the one I had expected to be sending you today..  I began writing this shortly after Labor Day weekend:

Spirit's seizures were becoming more frequent & more violent.. her quality of life decreasing with the passing of days.. some days a little better.. but she slips away a little @ a time.. .the days that are bad far outweigh the good ones. I cannot continue watch her to got downhill, & have no 'connection' with me any longer.  .she is slipping away from me.. not answering to her name.. staring off into space.. the nose twitching, & mouth movements began again. She is still not able to play with me.. or to run, or show any enjoyment in life @ all

 We have shared so much.. & have so many wonderful memories. I cannot ask her to stay here in this physical realm with me any longer.. she needs to be forever free of the seizure monsters...

 She has outlived the Neurologist @ the University of Minn's prognosis by over a year!!!!

 When I was sure she was about to leave me last December 8th, I begged the Blessed Mother, & God to allow me time with her thru Easter.. which I was given and additional 6 months beyond that..

 Now it is time to give this awesome little gift back to her loving Creator Who alone will give eternal relief from these horrid monsters.. knowing that she is safest in His hands.. & that she will wait for me to join her one day..

 Then comes the Awesome part!!!!!!

 I had taken her off the Soloxine, & was simply biding her/my time until today...

  I took her on September 3rd, to the church {where I was Baptized & Confirmed this past Easter} for some pictures.  We then went to St Bede's a monastery that I frequent, which has incredibly beautiful gardens for taking pix. 

Then I.. decided to give the Soloxine {right after the initial trial she had had 2 Gm/day, plus nonstop petits/focals for 4 days in a row} one more try.  Her recovery is nothing short of a miracle!!!!  Spirit has had an amazing turnaround.. & is doing fantastic!!!...needless to say, I am thrilled beyond words!!!!

 Her coat is smooth & silky, her nose is cold & wet, no sign of any seizure activity. she wants to play, loves to run, gets into mischief, tearing up envelopes.. biting @ my heels.. She remembers long since unused commands due to her lack of ability to concentrate {I have one command that means. don't move even one foot. this as a conformation command, as well to keep her from running out into the road if a vehicle is coming, or someone is driving into my driveway}, .doing all kinds of great puppy things again!!!

 I never expected another miracle.. I was contented that I was given the miracle of keeping her with me thru Easter.. . & beyond...

 My advice to anyone who has even the slightest reason to believe.. {or even without a secure reason}. that your fur angel may have hypothyroidism.. have Dr Dodds panel done.. It may change your life & that of your fur/purr baby's forever!!!

 To those who have so courageously given the ultimate freedom to your loved ones from this horrific, unspeakable disease, please know that I light a candle each time I read a name, & tho my work schedule does not allow me to be @ many of the ceremonies. .you are not forgotten.  It is truly our love that keeps us & our fur angels connected beyond the physical reality of this world. A bond so strong that not even their leaving this world can destroy.

 Peace & blessings to you all, & remembering always, each one who fights the battle with these monsters daily.

Last monster visit October 21, 2003, & we are praying that it will be a long time.. that we will be able to to count before the monsters visit again.  Praying for a miracle that slowly, the seizures will become a distant, terrible memory.
